If you’ve visited my blog you may have seen the post about my upcoming book, The Barbarian Queen of the North, The post featured an artist’s rendition of the lead character, Princess Alauna. I contracted to have this piece of art created by an artist in Great Britain, a very talented woman. Unfortunately, I was to learn to my great regret that the artist had used as a model an AI generated portrait from a website.
Needless to say, I addressed the issue with the artist who immediately apologized and refunded my money. I then secured licensing for the AI rendering from the originator at far less cost. In a strange way it worked out well for me. However, caviat emptor, be careful from whom on the web you purchase creative material. Even if you inadvertently use someone else’s copyrighted art or material, you still could be legally liable for damages.
